Police: Footprints led to serial crook

A burglar alarm at 3:20 a. m. Friday brought Officers Dwaine Cabeceiras and Michele Niles to 17 Rodman St. , where they found a bent security gate and a forced-open front door to the Down Town Mini Mart. As other officers began work securing the store, Cabeceiras and Niles followed the trail of footprints, stopping to call for backup when they found a small safe tossed behind the store. The snow, which began falling just before midnight on Thursday and continued for several hours, was largely undisturbed when the investigation began, police report. Choquette, 34, of 167 Williams St. , was charged with breaking into 14 businesses along with a host of other charges. He was captured by uniform officers who followed footprints in the snow that covered the ground in the predawn hours last Friday. The footprints led to 167 Williams St. , police allege.
